joel woolf
Joel Woolf is a musician, producer and film&TV composer. Working out of his own studio in Sydney, Joel combines his collection of vintage analogue gear and instruments with cutting edge digital technology to work across a variety of styles and genres and seeks to explore the nexus between electronic and acoustic sounds in his work with a focus on communicating emotion and narrative through sound and music. He is particularly interested in exploring unusual treatments of acoustic instruments; processing and manipulating the everyday sounds we are used to into something that is new while maintaining a surprising familiarity.
Joel has worked on a wide variety of film projects, from shorts to features, documentaries to dramas and museum installations. His work has been screened internationally, as well as in Australia at festivals such as the Melbourne International Film Festival, Dungog, St Kilda and Flickerfest, and appeared on ABC TV, SBS and the commercial networks. Using his boutique collection of acoustic instruments and analogue synthesizers alongside cutting edge digital techniques Joel writes music that complements the emotional essence of each story.
As a producer, musician and songwriter Joel’s work has been broadcast widely, from US college radio to triple j, as well as featured in TV shows and commercials. As a working musician Joel has an intuitive understanding of the music creation process and is able to work directly with artists to help them achieve their vision and bring their recording to life.
Having been involved in many bands over the years, Joel is currently a member of the burgeoning indie pop group Hollow States. He composes music for the audio fiction podcast Jones & Woolf, and also works as the sound producer at Eastside Radio 89.7fm, regularly recording and mixing live concerts for airplay.
